Zoe Barker
RetroSpective
A celebration of the 'ordinary and everyday' before it became fashionable to be 'retro.' Zoe Barker invites you into a world where interest and beauty can be found in the most ordinary of details - details that are rendered all the more valuable by the knowledge that they are genuine survivals and not modern day 'retro' imitations. Zoe has always been drawn to domestic settings. Her images are full of stillness and yet also filled with life, the everyday details she captures resonating with the lives of those who have occupied these spaces – portraits in absentia. She often shoots in locations that have been abandoned or are on the verge of major change, and there is a poignancy to these projects that reminds us of the transience of things and the fragility of life. Seeking out the ‘extraordinary in the ordinary’ she believes if you take the time to look you can find beauty anywhere. It could be something as mundane as an old chair, a door handle, a light switch - the beauty is always in the details. Zoe has a passion for the qualities of film and shoots on 120 roll film.
