Villa Monteturli
Villa Monteturli is an aristocratic villa in Florence. It accommodates thirty-six people, men and women between the ages of 14 and 60, heavily disabled, with either congenital encephalopathy, cause of motor, psychic, mental and sensory deficits. No drama to report. I focused my gaze on the vital and transgressive energy of complete disability, trying to catch the disarming quality of the protagonists and their trust, extreme and unaware in the deliverance of an image. I transform them in sculptures with powerful gestures, redeeming a tormented life measured by the rhythm of treatments and medicines, silences and tears. The central framing, the lacking of any reference to the hospital environment, the colours on the walls and the geometries soften the faces and bodies and allow a new way of looking at disability: a possibility, an uncontrollable variable of beauty and life, shaking up the ordinary features and perception of reality.
