Made In China

I recently visited England, Spain, Italy, Holland and Germany all without leaving Shanghai, China. My photo story 'Made In China' is a window into the surreal phenomenon of the European themed towns of Shanghai. China is currently experiencing the greatest urban migration in human history. Millions are moving from their rural hometowns to the city and developers are taking novel and at times bizarre approaches to separate their properties from the rest. One such example of this is the ‘Nine Towns, One City’ initiative in which nine new towns were planned, each with their own European theme. Earlier this year I visited each of these towns and captured the cultural dissonance between the euro style architecture and the Chinese locals. My photo story explores notions of authenticity and the surreal nature of modern landscapes in the newly globalised world.
