Sandra Cattaneo Adorno

Sandra Cattaneo Adorno started photographing six years ago, at the age of 60, and has continuously been thrilled by the possibilities of interacting with the world photography has offered her.   
Sandra was commended for the Sony Awards 2016 (exhibition at Somerset House, London), she was published on the LensCulture website and was shortlisted for the first round of the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize in 2017. She received the PDN Exposure Award in 2018. Sandra was the recipient of the American Illustration-American Photography 2019 Awards and the was proclaimed ND People Photographer of the Year 2019 by Neutral Density Magazine.
Sandra’s work was exhibited during the American Illustration-American Photography 2017 Awards in New York, the Independent Photographer 2017 show in Berlin, and Photoville in Brooklyn in 2018. Sandra’s photos were projected at the Kaunas Photo Festival in 2018 and were exhibited at the first Women Street Photographers exhibition in December 2018 in New York, at the Miami Street Photography Festival 2018, at Miami Photo Fest in 2019, as well as at Street Photo Milano 2019, the Sofia Street Photography Festival 2019, the Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival 2019, the Bielso-Biala Foto Art Festival 2019, at Xposure Photo Festival 2019 in the United Arab Emirates and at the Women Street Photographers Exhibition at Brussels Street Festival 2019 as well as at Photoville Brooklyn 2019. As part of the Portrait of Humanity Global Tour 2019, Sandra’s work will be exhibited at the Lagos Photo Festival, at the Louisiana State Museum as part of Photo NOLA Festival and at the Organ Vida International Photography Festival in Zagreb, Croatia.  Her work featured in the exhibitions of the Women Street Photographers in New York and at the Miami Street Photography Festival in December 2019. Sandra was selected for the 14th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards and her work will show in the related exhibition in Barcelona in March 2020.
Sandra was selected among the ten finalists of the National Geographic 100 contest in 2019 and was one of the winners of the Portrait of Humanity Award 2019 in collaboration with Magnum Photos. One of her photos was selected for Art on a Postcard at PhotoLondon 2019. Her work was published in the EyeShot Magazine, the Ageist, the Guardian on two occasions and the Times. One of her pictures will feature in the National Geographic Almanac 2021.
Sandra’s first book, The Other Half of the Sky was published in 2019 and she is working on a second book on Rio de Janeiro to be published by Radius Books in 2020.
