Raw and Uncut
During winters, life turns too extreme in the Trans-Himalayan region of India. Frozen farm lands limit people from growing any food during winter. Temperatures can drop below minus twenty freezing all available, stored or tap water. Butchers from around the village, have to go by the river bed with their flock of sheep to cut and clean its meat. All the meat is transported to the town and later distributed to shops. Spiti is a high altitude or cold desert having close similarities to the neighboring Tibet and Ladakh regions in terms of terrain and climate. Kaza, situated along the Spiti River at an elevation of 3,650m, is the largest township and commercial center of the Spiti valley.
