LGBTQ Love

This project was born out of a desire to show what is equal Love. Love that is not related to others or to any institution but only to Love itself. In this project, I photographed LGBTQ couples from all over Israel. I wanted to carefully step into their life and to have the most authentic experience. I photographed each couple in it’s own home, which all of them opened so kindly, and shot everything on films to let the moment be, not more than 4-5 clicks. This archive shows Israeli gay love, and unfortunately unequal, Love of 2020, I have 100 couples already .

Artist Biography

Michael Liani

Michael Liani completed his MFA at Bezalel University in 2016, graduating with high honors. He completed his BA in 2015, majoring in Humanities and Social Sciences and graduating on the Dean’s List. He also graduated with honors from the Minshar School of Art, majoring in Photography and Fine Arts, in 2014.

Liani has exhibited his work at the Municipal Art Gallery of Afula, Israel (2019); the 6th International Biennale for Young Art at The National Centre for Contemporary Arts, Moscow, Russia (2018); “Art Rooms Fair Roma”, festival for local art in Rome, Italy (2018); Rosenfeld Gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel (2018); Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv, Israel (2018); Idris Gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel (2018), Tel Aviv Artists House, Tel Aviv, Israel (2018); “Malamegi Lab 9”, among twelve artists chosen, Piero Gallery, Venice, Italy (2017); exhibited video art piece at the Fresh Paint Art Fair, Tel Aviv, Israel, chosen by the CCA’s head curator; UCLA Biennial, Los Angeles, USA (2016); The Israel Museum, Anna Ticho Pavilion, Jerusalem, Israel (2016); The Negev Museum of Art, Be’er Sheva, Israel (2016); Line 16 Gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel (2015); Binyamin Gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel (2015); Tel Hai Museum, Tel Hai, Israel (2015).

Liani has received the NEXT! Prize for Innovative Creation of the Docaviv International Documentary Film Festival (2019); Prize for Emerging Artist granted by the Ministry of Culture, Israel (2018); Winner of International Photography Contest, Paris College of Art (2017); The Li Zhou Photography Festival Prize, Li Zhou Museum for Photography, China (2017).
Liani received honorary scholarships for his work towards his MA at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design (2016); from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation (2014); he also received an honorary prize for excellency from the Minshar School of Art (2013).
