They are the continuous ebb and flow of movement encompassing all things on earth: animals, humans, natural elements, pieces of culture (food, musical instruments, and clothing), and even objects (tools and toys). Relocation of displaced people looking for new homes may happen intentionally, instinctively, and sometimes accidentally. Other times, geo-political forces come into play. Long before recorded history, humans have sought out shelter from the elements and found refuge in caves, which became our first homes. Since then, people have searched for and hoped to create better places to dwell and call “home.” This new series, MIGRATIONS, captures images from my journeys through many lands. Each of these photographs incorporates imported people, animals, or objects, which I have embedded into them, with the concept of migration woven into personal spaces. Davis NLScreativemedia.com “Colors speak all languages.” -Joseph Addison ARTIST STATEMENT: Creating colorful, alternative realities, which exist in our collective unconscious, is at the heart of my work. This can be seen in my contemporary mandalas or in this new series of mythic mask transformations. Both evolve from a dream-like melding of my photographs in a creative process I call “digital alchemy.” This begins with selected images I have captured in my travels around the globe. By altering the context and environment they appear in, the objects take flight while creating a sense of wonder. Jon H. Davis embraces digital media, expressing his vision of people and places while reflecting his love of the natural world, ancient arts, and global adventures. He has been an avid photographer since his youth and after studies at the Brooks Institute of Fine Art and Photography, went on a two-year long sojourn taking volumes of photographs. While driving across Europe and Asia in his VW van, his adventures included kayaking in the deep fjords of Norway, skiing throughout the Alps, and elephant-riding on the island of Sri Lanka. His photographs—including ships from the Indian Ocean, robots from Japan, cuisine from Thailand, and totem poles from Canada—have been published in many magazines including The Robb Report, Body & Soul, The Hook, Spa Life, Global Rhythm, and North American Inns.

In addition to his video docs and vast inventory of photographs from around the world, Davis creates colorful, contemporary artworks inspired by the Tibetan mandalas (cosmic maps of the universe). Working with a process he calls “digital alchemy,” he transforms some of his photographs and paintings into contemporary art mandalas, incorporating elements, textures, and patterns from the natural world. These works are available in archival prints as well as on canvas, metal, or in digital installations.
