Stories of home, stories of light. This series is meant as a chromatic exploration of serenity in what are often difficult contexts. Glimpses of strangers at rest, at ease or in movement, always at peace, juxtaposed with often empty, sun-flooded places and their secrets. To me, colour is a way of getting lost in the history of a place, a means to visualise tranquility and the rhythms of cities that go on despite the world around them. Shot on various locations in Morocco, Spain and Ethiopia on 35mm film.

Ioana Lungu’s work centres on capturing mundane moments of magic, be it the never-ending interplay between light and shadows, or unexpectedly cinematic juxtapositions in far away places. Through photography, she attempts to make sense of her own experience of migration and capture a fundamental feeling of intimacy that transcends geography. Using film allows her to frame each moment consciously and better appreciate its unique character.

Born and raised in Bucharest (Romania), she lived in Vienna and Brussels before settling down in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
