The View from Above
This series of aerial images was taken during my 4000km road trip in Sept last year, from my home in Perth Western Australia to the Kimberleys in the northern part of the State. On the journey up, I stopped off at the staggeringly beautiful Shark Bay World Heritage area. The 10,000km2 region is home to an amazing diverse array of marine wildlife (including turtles, dolphins, manta rays, whales and dugongs), and stunning coastal landscapes, with stunning white beaches, crystal clear waters, rust-red sand dunes and ancient gypsum salt lakes (locally called ""birradas"). All this made for some stunning aerial photographic imagery, which I photographed at around 2000ft from a tiny Cessna (so much fun). And then it was onto Broome, a town at the start of the incredible Kimberley region. Broome was founded as a town in the late 1800's primarily on the back of the pearling industry. Nowadays it is a major worldwide tourist destination, famous for its staggeringly beautiful coastal landscapes and beaches. The town is surrounded by the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean, with the wide white sandy stretch of Cable Beach contrasting with the pindan red rocks of Gantheaume Point and the turquoise waters and green mangroves of Roebuck Bay. It all makes for some breathtaking aerial photographic imagery.
