Intentional
My current body of work plays with notions of painting and drawing with light and colour, using the technique of Intentional Camera Movement, to explore what it means to create photographic digital art and where the boundaries lie between photography and painting. This approach to photography allows me to represent reality in a fluid manner with time and light being the drawing materials. I am creating abstract representations of reality, a momentary experience captured in evocative light and colour. At times my subject matter is landscapes, digital screens or others artwork and in this way, any moment is able to be captured and a unique interpretation created. Like a remix or mashup I can take reality from an external or internal source, playing with the boundaries of authorship and ownership I am able to draw afresh from any input to create variable outputs, at times entirely lost from the source. Each moment seeks to evoke some fleeting feeling alluded to in the original. I’ve always sought to connect to the viewer through notions of beauty and the sublime and this has continued to shape my image making. I am striving to capture the luminous tones of light, ones that glow and transport. I hope to touch the viewer with simple beauty but also to connect to the history of art making as I reference and am inspired by other practitioners.
